Basics
Bow legs (genu varum) is condition when legs have deformity outward of natural legs position.
Knock knee (genu valgum) is condition when legs have deformity inward of natural legs position.
Arthritis means a disorder of the knee joint, generally implying early joint surface damage.
Leg axis is conventional axis that shows how the body weight distributes among leg joints.
Articular cartilage is a type of dense connective tissue. It can supply smooth surfaces for the movement of articulating bones.

First of all bow legs (genu varum) and knock knee (genu valgum) are deformities that are not only cosmetic defects. They also lead to knee-joint move abnormality that after a number of years result to arthritis.

We find out that normal body weight distribution is when the leg axis go straight through femoral head, center of the knee-joint and center of articulation of foot. In this case the body weight distribute naturally and articular cartilage of knee-joint have equal weight distribution at full surface. There is natural position of knee-joint that allows to save the articular cartilage in health during years.

]]>

What is happen when a person have bow legs or knock-knee? As you could imagine that legs axises go still straight through femoral head and center of articulation of foot but do not go through center of the knee-joint. So body weight distribution change and regarding the knee-joint one part of the knee have more loading than another. If bow legs there is more loading of inner part of knee-joint and if knock knee there is more loading of outer part of knee-joint. So articular cartilage of knee-joint have different weight distribution at surface that leads to its attrition in the part where the loading is maximum. In time the articular cartilage attrition leads to arthritis and a person feels pain in knee-joints. Appearance of arthritis usually happen after years in elderly age but sometimes it is happen in middle age. It depends on individual health of each person.

The only way to protect yourself from appearance of knee-joint arthritis is the surgery for bow legs and knock-knee correction. With the surgery the leg axis become natural position so articular cartilage of knee-joint get equal weight distribution at full surface and keeps its health in years. Also there is a cosmetic effect that lets a person feels himself or herself more comfortable around other people.

Game Notes

The game does not need to be played. The experts have a consensus, New England is overmatched and doesn’t have a chance. After all, has the unexpected ever made fools of the experts? Other than all season long for the New England Patriots…. Here is a worthwhile note to all evaluating this game: You do not reach the conference championship without being a very talented team. This is the #1 seed playing at home against the #2 seed. There have been landslide victories in both directions and it is undoubtedly a battle for at least 60 minutes. Before the season began, New England was counted out while Pittsburgh was the ugly stepsister of Tennessee and Baltimore. The experts were wrong on both counts and now seem poised for a trifecta!

There is little doubt the Steelers are a very talented team. What is in doubt is whether their talent suggests domination over the New England Patriots.

The team’s head to head record favors Pittsburgh 11-4 while the playoff record is tied at 1-1 with the home team winning each battle. In the last such match, it was a 7-6 victory in a defensive battle. For streaks the Steelers have been victors in 6 of the last 7 battles. This is, however, the playoffs. Veterans of quality line both rosters and both teams know the past is irrelevant, only the present will matter.

Opponent Review

The Steelers aren’t such a difficult read. They are the top rushing attack and the top rushing defense in the NFL in terms of total yards! It is this lofty statistic which most intimidates the experts into their Steeler selection frenzy. They have likewise maintained solid pass defense allowing 183.9 yards which is 4th best in the NFL. They control the clock, control the ball and boast the 3rd fewest points allowed in the League. While some of this is due to shoddy offenses within their division, the Steelers have an excellent and stingy defense to compliment their power offense.

Defensively the Steelers play a 3-4 base defense. The strength of their defense resides firmly in their exceptional linebacking corps. Defensive Rookie of the Year Kendrell Bell was a teammate of Richard Seymour. He has bolstered the speed of the ILB position along with Earl Holmes who may miss the game with a knee injury but will be well replaced by Mike Jones or John Fiala. Strong depth at Inside Linebacker is a significant part of their success with the 3-4 scheme. Jason Gilden and Joey Porter are exceptional at their outside positions. They use this talented group to provide well disguised pressure on opposing Quarterbacks. Defensive Coordinator Lewis uses 20 blitz packages in his weekly game plan, the results are shocking. Gilden, Porter and Bell have 30 sacks between the trio! The Steeler defensive line does not contain the big names of their linebackers but contains the near 300 pound per man mass which is needed to hold the middle of the line of scrimmage and allow the linebackers to make plays. This is the primary reason opponents convert only 34% of their third down opportunities. Of their first downs allowed, only 70 have been on the ground while forcing 160 to come via the pass. Their secondary is the more maligned because it isn’t as dominant as their run defense. Chad Scott and Dewayne Washington man the corner position with good size and decent speed. Lee Flowers is the punishing and outspoken strong safety while Brent Alexander is a speedy free safety. The safeties are solid and their vastly zone schemes are effective for their capabilities. Left in single coverage the corners may be at a disadvantage against fleet and agile receivers. Given linebacker support in their zones they have earned their #4 rating.

Offensively the Steelers expect to release a well rested Jerome Bettis on the Patriots. He is a power runner with surprising speed. Running laterally the Patriots have had a good record against Jerome but his strength is attacking straight up the field and running over and through tacklers. His line are all reasonably athletic 300 pound drive blockers to complement Jerome’s 5’11″ 260 pound assault. It is small wonder he averages nearly 5.0 yards per carry. When he needs a break, Amos Zereous brings in a more shifty speed back who averages over 5.2 yards per carry. It is a dangerous tandem indeed and to make matters more perilous for the opposition, Chris Fuamatu-Ma’afala is a Bettis clone in back-up duty. They challenge you to stop the run and on the off chance you manage, they have a pair of 1,000 yard receivers in Plaxico Burress and Hines Ward. At 6’5″, Plaxico is a giant of a receiver who happily leaps for jump balls over shorter opposition. Hines Ward prides himself at being the (contested) best blocking receiver in the game. The duo are dangerous, made more so by the best year ever for Pro-Bowl Quarterback Kordell Stewart. Steward has made excellent decisions and used his speed and athleticism to also grab more than 500 yards of rushing offense. In short Pittsburgh can beat you with their power rushing, their shifty speed rushing, their talented duo of receivers and strong armed Quarterback or as a last resort, upon the scrambling of the Quarterback. It is small wonder they have such a balanced first down attack which showcases 148 on the ground and 150 in the air.

Some might find Special Teams to be the chink in the armor of the best record in the AFC. Kris Brown would not be on the team if they could make the decision today. He has performed abysmally. His accuracy from 40-49 yards was just 6 of 15. He missed 5 other kicks from 30-39 yards. The Steelers simply cannot rely upon him at any range. Their punting has been adequate but not spectacular. Hank Poteat is not spectacular at punt or kick returning but Troy Edwards is a bit moreso. Their coverage teams are not without flaws and opponents have a better average at both than the Steelers. They do not, dispute Lewis’ exception last week, typically surrender scores on special teams.

Our Match-up Strength

While most folks list only the Special Teams edge, I think the underdog will play a big factor in this match. Pittsburgh took a practice day off to prepare for their Superbowl. All the hype has them already at the Big Easy and will make it a tougher challenge for them not to take it easy this game. Add the long layoff for the Bus, the confidence of beating their hated rival in the previous game and New England’s stance rises a notch. The Patriots are quite humble in the manner of their victory and are well aware the world, less a few resolute fans, are non-believers. Nothing inspires a proud athlete more than the doubt of the world.

Special Teams is an enormous edge. Adamatic Vinatieri makes winning kicks without room for doubt from the critics. Kris Brown has inspired only visions of misses. When two very capable teams battle it is more commonly a close game and in close games the better Field Goal unit and position will win more games than they lose.

Passing offense – the strength of New England’s offensive attack is the quick passes to speedy and sharp cutting receivers. Troy Brown specializes in finding the seams of a zone and exploiting the opportunity. Meanwhile David Patten has the speed to make them pay if they double Troy. The emergence of Wiggins last game will also force some linebacker respect.

Run Defense. The strength of the Steelers is a strength of New England. Since the arrival of Richard Seymour in week 4, the New England Patriot run defense has as a general rule been exceptional. Certainly they will be challenged by Pittsburgh attack but it is an edge to have a strength which is little realized. Carolina aside, the Patriots have not allowed a 100 yard rusher for months!

Our Match-up Weakness

The concept of running against Pittsburgh is daunting. Their #1 rating is well deserved as the trio of wide bodies: Kimo VonOelhoffen, Casey Hampton (or Kendrick Clancy) and Aaron Smith load up the middle very well allowing the speed and power of their linebackers to flow to the ball and make plays. Antowain Smith is a power assault but has struggled against top run defenses.

Blitzburgh’s sack potential is top in the league and New England’s offensive line has not handled blitzing linebacker as well as they would like. Worse still, Tom Brady has fumbled an inordinate amount of times this season. This could be the biggest point of concern for New England and is a serious edge for the Steelers Defense.

Kordell scrambling is also going to be difficult for New England. While they’ve had success in the past with a spy, his composure in the passing game makes the use of a spy far more difficult. Key first down conversions may be had by Kordell’s talented improvisations.

Crowd Noise is always an edge for the home team and never more than when playoff fever grips a region. New England will have trouble using an audible when Brady senses a blitz. Confusion results in mistakes and the crowd in Pittsburgh will undoubtedly be ready to provide a loud game.

Famous Amos is the precise style of back which most troubles New England. When they are geared up to handle a power game, Amos Zereoue will provide a dangerous different style. One to which the Patriots have shown a vulnerability in the recent past.

Strategy

Both sides know the Pittsburgh game plan. Feed their powerful running attack down New England’s throat. Force the linebackers or safeties to commit to help and then punish them with big play passing assaults. When your trio of backs are of the quality Pittsburgh brings, you will force respect for the run until the opponent adjusts and then you take advantage of the middle with your excellent possession receiver Plaxico Burress.

Defensively the Steelers want to punish New England’s short passing game. They will be ready to unload on Brady early and hope to rattle him as they did Elvis Grbac. Brady doesn’t rattle easy but pressure and pain can disrupt any game. The outside backers will be cheating towards the Wide Receiver screens. Trying to make New England pay for teir most common attack. It exposes them a bit to the run but they trust their inside backers to clean up the middle and their outside backers to have the needed closing speed.

New England has used the quick passes as their running game and know Pittsburgh’s vaunted run defense may have them over confident. Rutledge or Wiggins in motion can be very effective at picking off an inside linebacker for a run up the middle. New England’s middle run is the least respected form and is precisely where a surprise strike might work best. This until the outside backers pull closer to the line of scrimmage at which point the screens which New England has used very effectively can become their running game in compliment to Smith up the middle. The strategy was used against Miami to knock off Zach Thomas. It worked because of the absence of Gardener but Pittsburgh has an absent DT as a result of their scheme. Pittsburgh can most likely stop it with attention but it’s attention which will open up the more common New England gameplan.

Defensivley the Patriots need to get the most out of their middle/inside linebackers. The same group who stuffed Oakland on key short yardage situations must play larger still to halt the Steeler rushing attack without calling in safety reinforcement. Vrabel and Phifer must cheat a bit on the little used Tight End to attack the run more forcibly. Meanwhile New England must deliver on their promise of physical play on the receivers. They must confound Stewart into mistakes which isn’t easy this season. Their zone schemes are as complex as any but harder to employ against a tough running team like Pittsburgh. When 3rd and long arives, this is their time to confuse him with schemes. This requires shutting down the early down gains.

Prediction

The Game is still ultimately a physical battle. The team who gets more toughness and controls the line of scrimmage most frequently wins. New England got past their bye week(S!) by the end of the Raiders game. The style with which they closed out the Raider game is the intensity and style they need to beat Pittsburgh. There is nothing like a lead to silence a crowd as well as force Pittsburgh out of it’s desire to dominate on the ground. New England trickery nets an early score which Adam extends. Pittsburgh playing catch up has a mixed bag of success. Lots of short gains to punished receivers maintains the top red-zone defense. The mistakes for Stewart equal the gains and New England hangs on to shock the football world with a 23-14 victory! Jambalaya!!

SAN DIEGO – What do you do when you’ve suffered 15 concussions on the football field, knocking you out of the running as an NFL professional player? Where do you apply for a job when the top points on your resume boast the ability to bring a 330-pound defensive tackle to his knees, consume massive calories daily and bench nearly three times your weight?

Well, if you’re Andrew Kline, you take your life savings and work sixteen-hour days founding and nurturing a sports-based speakers’ bureau. Athletic Appearance contacts and confirms appearances by top athletes with businesses for any number of events, including restaurant openings, team-building workshops and motivational speaking engagements.

“One day, a friend of mine asked if I could get a few athletes to appear at an eating contest sponsored by a popular restaurant, “ Kline remembers. A few phone calls assured top athletes for the event and planted the seed for a promising new career. Kline realized he was able to leverage his credibility as a respected ex-pro to get other athletes at events.

His research showed that there were speakers’ bureaus offering the services of retired sports and celebrity figures, but few matched hot athletes still in the game with private companies.

Pfizer, Bayer, Ford and other Fortune 500 companies have called on Kline to connect them with pro athletes for appearances and internal team building workshops.

Kline, a San Diego State University alum and Aztec All-League lineman, was drafted by the St. Louis Rams in 2000. He was a stand-out player until a crippling series of concussions cut his career short.

His journey back from injuries is remarkable; his comeback story is one your readers and viewers will find inspirational. Kline truly enjoys the view on the detour his life has taken.

PriceLess Shoes provides the following information as a monthly overview of news and all things happening in the market of good quality as well as look yet cheap shoes.

Fringe benefits

If summer was all about long flowing wavy locks then the hair style trend for autumn is the more sculpted style of adding a fringe. According to Glamour magazine, all the celebrities are getting carried away with the hair style statement and there is guaranteed to be a fringe out there to suit every face shape. While model Daisy Lowe has gone for a soft and wispy fringe cut shorter to show off her large eyes, Mischa Barton has opted for a longer and thinner fringe that complements her strong jaw. Actress Michelle Williams has a rounder face but looks great with a micro-feathered fringe that adds angle and to her short crop while Nicole Ritchie – who also has a round face – has added depth with long bangs worn swept to the side. Meanwhile, Paris Hilton shows off her cheekbones with a fringe that finishes below her brow bone and Peaches Geldof goes for a rockier look with a long thick one that has been cut wide. Glamour notes: “Be it dense, choppy, wispy or side-swept, there’s a fringe out there to suit your style.”

A black and white ball:

Despite several fashion experts telling us that purple is the colour of autumn, the celebs at last night’s US Glamour awards decided the season was more of a monochrome affair. According to Heat, Sarah Michelle Gellar wore a floaty white halterneck dress with her hair tied in a loose ponytail. However, she hardened up her girly look with a pair of t-bar strappy stilettos that were reminiscent of the 1930s flapper era. Meanwhile, former Will & Grace star Debra Messing wore a daring strapless black frock which was covered in sequins and had starched black netting around the hem. She opted for this season’s key shoe trend – a pair of black satin peep-toe heels – to complete her look. Nicole Kidman thanked her husband, country singer Keith Urban, as she picked up an award for the work she has carried out as a United Nations goodwill ambassador. She also joined in with the night’s unofficial monochrome theme, in a white gown with lace detailing and a matching bow tied round her arm.

Liz Hurley ‘the best dressed star’:

Elizabeth Hurley has been crowned the queen of the red carpet after her controversial ‘safety pin’ frock was voted the best gown of all time. According to Marie Claire, the Versace dress Liz wore at the age of 29 to the premiere of Four Weddings And A Funeral with her then-boyfriend, Hugh Grant, is continuing to make waves 14 years on. The infamous gown had a sweetheart neckline which plunged to the bottom of her ribcage and was held together at the sides by golden safety pins. A poll by Debenhams asked 3,000 women to pick their favourite red carpet dress of all time and Liz’s topped the list. Style icon Audrey Hepburn came in second for her 1954 Oscar acceptance gown which was white with a flowered pattern and cinched in at the waist with a still on trend belt. Julia Roberts, Catherine Zeta Jones and Jennifer Lopez completed the top five and even Bjork made the list for her dress in the shape of a swan. Meanwhile, in an earlier survey by the store, Elle Macpherson was named the greatest model ever.

Shoe-boots: The ultimate autumn style?:

The shoe-boot may be the best accessory to tide girls over between the end of summer and the dawn of winter, it has been claimed. According to the Daily Press, the footwear hybrid is available in a variety of styles, including open-toed, gothic-inspired and preppy. There is even a vast alternative of heel choice, from stiletto to chunky to stacked and towering. However, there is nothing new about the shoe-boot, as James Ferragamo, women’s leather product director of Salvatore Ferragamo, noted they had been worn since 1300 BC and were truly popularised when teamed with a miniskirt in the 1960s. “They look great with skinny denim, boot leg trousers, skirts and dresses. A major trend on the runways this season featured platform and peep-toe booties styled with bold tights and worn with dresses and skirts,” he explained. Meanwhile, according to Female First, stiletto heels are also set to be a key trend for the autumn.

Leona to turn designer?:

Singer Leona Lewis may be preparing to branch out into a new career, following reports that she is to design a range of non-leather shoes and bags. According to the Mirror, the X Factor winner is currently in talks to develop a new vegetarian-friendly line of accessories, putting her in competition with designers such as Stella McCartney. Meanwhile, the 12 acts that will go on to perform in the live shows of the ongoing ITV talent search were revealed this weekend. Among them were the under-25 girls Alexandra Burke, Laura White and Diana Vickers who will be mentored by Girls Aloud member Cheryl Cole and Simon Cowell’s under-25s boys group which is made up of Eoghan Quigg, Austin Drage and Scott Bruton. However, it is the judges who have made the most headlines in recent weeks, with Louis Walsh allegedly hinting that Sharon Osbourne is to return to the panel, replacing Dannii Minogue, according to the Daily Star.

In one of the most exciting night of boxing in recent Colorado memory, Mexican prospect Alfonso Gomez, 147.6, won a tougher than anticipated, although still dominant, unanimous six-round decision over last minute substitute Julio Lanzas, 147.4.

Fortunately for the fans in attendance, Lanzas proved to be tough, determined, and all to willing to brawl with his quicker and more polished opponent. However, his tremendous heart simply couldn’t compensate for the huge natural advantages possessed by Gomez. Although both fighters started the round cautiously, the tone of the fight quickly became apparent within the first minute, with Lanzas pumping wild right hands while Gomez countering with short, compact shots whenever Lanzas got in close, and occasional jabs from the outside.

The jab would prove to be an effective, if seldom used, weapon of Gomez in this fight, as it proved to be the only thing that kept the wild brawler “honest.” But by the second round Lanzas began sneaking in a just a few of his over hand rights, sending his many fans who made the trek up from Colorado Springs on their seats with cheers of approval. However, Gomez would still find ways of making Julio pay, as a short right cross briefly stunned Lanzas in the second. Moments later an uppercut followed by a hard hook to the body briefly bucked the knees of Lanzas.

But hardly willing to lay down, Lanzas came back in the third with all the determination of a Central American brawler, stalking Gomez, who was beginning to brawl with a bit more gusto than had been the case in the earlier rounds. Finding a home for the left uppercut, Gomez bloodied the nose of Lanzas and continued to dissect his foe. But although he briefly had Lanzas backing up, it proved not to be the downfall of Lanzas, as he fired back and briefly had Gomez covering up on the ropes. But perhaps overestimating his opportunity, Gomez made Lanzas pay for his recklessness, landing a left hook followed by a hard overhand right with five seconds left in the round that deposited Lanzas on the seat of his pants.

Lanzas, however, continued to brawl and although he would still eat a disproportionate number of right hands over the next two rounds, his heart kept the fans in attendance appreciative, even if he wasn’t winning any rounds. With the tougher than expected fight in the bag in the sixth and final round, and with the still dangerous Lanzas winging hard overhand rights with reckless abandon, Gomez decided to play it safe in the final round, and although he did land a hard uppercut at 2:50 seconds of the round, it was not enough to derail the game Lanzas, who continued to punch until the bell ending the fight.

In the end, one of the judges, John Ulibarri, scored the fight a shutout at 60-53, while the remaining two judges (Ed Kuglar and Nomar Garcia) gave Lanzas the last round and scored the fight 59-54. Fightnews also gave Lanzas the final round by the slimmest of margins and gave the fight to Gomez by a score of 59-54. Gomez, who saw his record improve to 10-2-1 (4), admitted after the fight “I guess the altitude did affect me a bit…but I take nothing away form him, he just kept coming and coming.”

Although Lanzas’s record now stands at a hardly awe-inspiring 1-3, his heart and conditioning should ensure that, as long as his managers don’t screw things up, he might very well emerge as a prospect of note here in the state of Colorado.

(PRWEB) March 14, 2004

On March 10, 2004, after a three week trial, a jury in the Los Angeles Superior Court awarded Harold Johnson, Charles Robinson, and Adam Strickland more than $ 7,000,000 for injuries sustained in a railroad collision. This is one of the largest verdicts ever in a railroad injury lawsuit. James K. Vucinovich of Yaeger, Jungbauer, Barczak & Vucinovich, PLLC who represented Johnson, described the accident as “another case of corporate irresponsibility.”

In the early evening of July 4, 2001, Johnson, a switchman with 28 years of railroad work under his belt, and Strickland, a conductor, were riding in the cab of an eastbound locomotive as it slowly made its way through a train yard in Los Angeles. Their train was coupled to another engine that powered both, and was driven by Robinson, an engineer. Johnson and Strickland acted as lookout and blew the whistle to let workers in the yard know their train was coming through. They had just pulled into view of the curved track ahead when they saw a runaway tanker car barreling straight for them.

The runaway tanker car, loaded with corn syrup and weighing 130 tons, had rolled out of a warehouse and sped through two miles of Los Angeles neighborhoods and street crossings, remarkably injuring no one. The car was traveling nearly 60mph when Johnson and Strickland saw it coming. Seconds later it hit their train, and it hit hard, demolishing the lead locomotive and throwing them from their seats. Johnson was knocked unconscious. He came to, bruised and bleeding, and the damage was permanent. Three years later, the pain in his back, hands, and ankle remains constant. The injury to his shoulder limits the motion of one arm, and he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Robinson sustained multiple orthopedic injuries to his knees, neck, and back that left him permanently disabled. Strickland had multiple bruises and contusions, and permanent injuries to his back and knee. Not one of the three is able to return to work.

In addition to reaching a settlement with the Union Pacific Railroad under the Federal Employers Liability Act (FELA), a negligence lawsuit was filed against the companies who were in possession and control of the tank car when the accident occurred. One of the companies, D&S Ingredients Inc., settled out of court, leaving Vernon Warehouse (represented by Scott Hengesbach of Murchison & Cumming in Los Angeles) as the sole defendant at trial.

The defense argued that when the railroad left the car in the yard earlier that day they had failed to secure the hand brake properly, or that an unknown, unnamed vandal had released the hand brake. The defense maintained to the end that Vernon Warehouse had no responsibility for this incident.

James K. Vucinovich of YJBV, who represented Johnson, said “Vernon Warehouse did not have any set procedures, training, or supervisory controls over the handling of loaded tank cars, even though it is and has been their business for decades. It is unfortunate in this day and age that corporations continue to do business in ways that are unsafe and irresponsible, and in this case led to an accident that ruined the careers of three railroad workers.”

The jury awarded:

$ 3.8 million to Harold Johnson, who was represented by James K. Vucinovich of Yaeger, Jungbauer, Barczak & Vucinovich with offices in Minneapolis Minnesota and Seattle Washington.

$ 2.5 million to Charles Robinson, who was represented by Mark P Dupont of Dupo Illinois.

$ 1.5 million to Adam Strickland, who was represented by Joseph Capelli & Associates of Conshohocken Pennsylvania.

The case was tried in the Superior Court of Unlimited Jurisdiction, County of Los Angeles Central District, under docket no. BC 273174

Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) January 18, 2009

They kept the beat – now it’s time to take a bow.

Last spring, the distributors and customers of wall cladding and coatings manufacturer Sto Corp. were asked to take part in an online competition based upon the street-performance percussion art known as bucket drumming. The contest was conceived and coordinated by Atlanta-based B2B marketing firm MLT Creative.

All that was asked from contestants was a little creativity, a minor amount of musical aptitude and a few of those big yellow buckets for which Sto has come to be recognized by construction crews worldwide. Participants were also instructed to immortalize their efforts in viral video form, via YouTube.

“We liked the idea of having an entertaining competition built around our iconic yellow bucket,” said Sto studio manager Billy Rosbottom. “It was a great way to have some fun with our distributors, highlight our brand and beat our own drum, so to speak.”

And thanks to the efforts of MLT Creative to get the word out, the contest generated an immense online response. Over the next few months, a slew of entries were uploaded – some from as far away as Germany and the United Kingdom. Practiced percussionists and eager amateurs alike answered the call.

The three-person judging panel painstakingly selected the top entries in four categories: solo, ensemble, drumline and children, basing their picks on criteria such as creativity, technical skill, musicality and showmanship.

The winners:

Solo: Matt Lawler of Building Restoration Products; Roswell, Georgia
Ensemble: Building Restoration Products; Roswell, Georgia
Drumline: Matt Dye of Stucco Outlet Supplies (SOS); Orlando, Florida
Children: Chip Blome of Nexgen Building Supply; Cincinnati, Ohio

The judges also bestowed International Honorable Mentions on two overseas entries:

StoMan Group c/o Bjoern Buehler, of Sto AG, Sto Corp.’s Germany-based parent company
Sto Gorilla Advert c/o Denise Freeman, of Sto Ltd., a subsidiary in England

The staff of MLT Creative was elated by the international response which, according to account executive Sarah Young, was completely unexpected. Young was especially impressed by the “Gorilla Advert,” a parody of a popular Cadbury commercial.

“The gorilla suit video – some true ‘guerrilla’ marketing, eh? – was hilarious,” she said. “It was submitted by one of the Sto subsidiaries in the UK. I especially liked how the song they used is ‘In the Air Tonight,’ which is well-known for a mean drum breakdown. It was very clever.”

Perhaps even more eye-opening than the overseas entries were those submitted by total outsiders – talented drummers who had just happened to stumble upon the contest’s Web site.

“It was really exciting that we had such a great response from not only the Sto distributors and the Sto international groups,” Young said, “but to also have people contacting us from outside the industry who were just as eager to enter.”

One such group, she added, went as far as to make their own Sto buckets — using regular white buckets and markers – after not being able to find any in their area, just so they could have a shot in the contest.

Impressed by their determination, the judges opted to give special recognition to three entries that, while not affiliated with a Sto distributorship, displayed an extraordinary level of talent. They were each given a Special Recognition for Outstanding Talent:

Drumline: Sto Boyz Drumline, Pariah Marching Percussion Theatre, c/o Tim Marshall; Ball Ground, GA
Drumline: Drummers with Attitude (DWA) c/o Kevin Travers; Levittown, PA
Ensemble: Ian Erickson and Josh West; Branson, MO

In addition to rewarding the winners, Sto Corp. will donate $ 1,500 to Habitat for Humanity on behalf of the 2008 Sto Bucket Drumming Contest.

The winners can be viewed on the official bucket drumming contest page on YouTube: Sto Corp. Bucket Drumming Contest Winners.

Based on the success of this first-ever contest, MLT Creative would like to do it all again next year, this time with the competition open to an international audience.

“The contest definitely grew legs of its own online,” Young said. “We hope to expand future contests and invite competition from around the world.”

“We opened Camp Bow Wow® because we believe in providing quality care for all dogs, so partnering with Bay Area Pet Adoptions, and the local Golden Retriever and Lab Rescue Organizations to help find a loving home for their rescue pups was a natural fit for our event,” said owner, Jennifer Zuniga. “We are excited to offer a great array of prizes donated by local pet businesses, with proceeds benefiting these charities. We can’t think of a better way to spend Valentine’s Day!”

For those who may not be familiar with Camp Bow Wow®, owners Jennifer and Al Zuniga invite you to come to the Cupids and Canines event and see this unique concept in doggy day care and overnight boarding for yourself. With its upscale and innovative environment for dogs to play, campers are sure to receive lots of love and attention. Camp Bow Wow® Kemah is a state of the art facility that offers many amenities to make sure the pups enjoy their stay.

Only at Camp Bow Wow in every nook and cranny of the camp, there are live Camper Cams® installed so owners can watch their beloved pooches play all day. Camp Bow Wow® has a 24 hour monitoring system to ensure all the campers are safe. Camp Bow Wow® Kemah has approximately 7500 sq ft of indoor camp and 2500 sq ft of outdoor play area with plenty of shade and puppy playground equipment.

Pups that visit Camp Bow Wow® enjoy most of their time (whether it’s for day camp or boarding) playing in one of the three large indoor/outdoor play areas for one flat fee, unlike many other similar businesses that charge extra for play time.

Another unique quality of the camp is that Certified Camp Counselors® are required to monitor the pooches all day and to adhere to the strict camper to counselor ratio for the safety of dogs. The counselors are trained in dog behavior, safety and health management. They are also CPR and First aid trained. Camp Bow Wow® knows how dogs play and interact, so they keep all sizes and types of pups very yappy! As an additional safety measure, the camp keeps large and small doggies in separate play areas.

There are a few requirements to be a camper and it all starts with the free interview day. The interview is a meet and greet with dogs of similar size and temperament and Al and Jennifer advise owners to take advantage of the free day and leave their pooches for the full day. Campers must be neutered or spayed if over 6-months old, up to date on rabies, distemper, and Bordetella vaccinations, and in good general health.

Camp Bow Wow® Kemah invites you to stop by and enjoy a day of free family fun at their Cupids and Canines event, where you can take a tour of the Camp and sign up for your interview day! Bring your kids, cameras, and of course your canines to the event on February 14th from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. It’s sure to be a dog-gone great time!

From the Publisher

SPX Publishers in alliance with Outskirts Press, would like to introduce, Richard Lee’s Re-Entry of Evil. A book, exploiting the life of Peter Clement, a down on his luck antique dealer who discovers (with a touch of help from Mephistopheles) a book designed to grant all his earthly desires. And the price is reasonable – One soul. His.

We’ve heard this blood feast before, hundreds perhaps thousands of times before – but Richard’s added a twist: Peter didn’t enter Hell when he died… He didn’t lose his soul, it’s safe and sound. Instead Peter went to a special prison. A prison locked inside his dagger. And with a little blood, he can return.

And he does, almost 400 years in the future.

Fast forward to the year 2368. The Arabian/German front is building up to the forth world war, the world president is trying to stop it – but not very hard. Christianity is on the brink of ending. Amongst all this is Rachael, an archeology student who as a child hard a crush on Peter Clement, the most successful salesman the world has ever known. On a dig for her school, she and her friends enter a time slip and arrive in Opera Sands, the day after Peter has killed himself. They find his house and venture inside. Demons assault them, Rachael finds Peter’s special dagger and takes it. Re-entering the time slip they arrive 3 weeks later in their time zone. The war has started, and at the gates to the domed city the student team is attacked. They escape and in doing so, Rachael cuts herself on the dagger, a deep cut.

In Peter’s Hell (which is the hilt of the dagger) a torrent of blood soaks him, he hears his demon friend’s voice and sees the white tunnel for his re-entry.

He enters the real world at Rachael’s house in time to save her from being assaulted by her violent ex-boyfriend. Her crush returns as full blown love. Peter is weak, he needs blood to enter the dagger so it will grant him strength. Rachael agrees to help him. On their way out of the house, Peter collapses from lack of energy. Rachael’s close friend and fellow archeology student arrives at her house. Peter attacks him, but it is Rachael who plunges the dagger into her friend, cementing his trust in her.

Peter’s main goal is to find his computer and recite the book he has written. It must be done in a church built the old fashioned way, to bring forth Satan and all hells glory.

The devil sat on his fiery throne in the sulfur filled city of Hell. He looked down at the towering buildings, bustling streets and the violence. Murders, rapes, fights. Standard order of the day. It was all so boring. He was so very tired of humanity and their pathetic weaknesses. The greed and the ‘want’ were constant.

He wanted to ruin humanity, destroy his father’s creatures, the idiotic monkeys they were and to do that he needed to be on the Earth in solid form.

And so he created a book. A book that preyed on the greed of Man and in turn collected souls for torture. Yet none of the apes in control of the book had found the real purpose of it. It’s intended reason for existence and the devil feared no Man-Creature would ever have the brains to work it out.

He needed someone with the skill to rewrite the passages; a separate wording is all that was needed. So simple monkeys should be able to do it.

The devil needed someone desperate enough to sign the book and smart enough to rewrite it. A talking monkey that would bring him forth.

He needed that man right there in Opera Sands. He would send Mephistopheles to talk with him. To strike a bargain for the devil…

Mephistopheles has offered Peter a book, a book that will bring his wildest wishes to reality. The price? Just a little blood.

20 years later, it is time to give his soul to the dark lord, but Peter wants to return and he’s just found a loophole to make that possible.

He returns in the year 2368, just as the Arabian/German Front is building up to the forth world war.

Christianity is almost non-existent, and Peter will bring forth his Lord, his Master, The Dark One.

The timing couldn’t have been better.

Rick Mohr Reviews

When the blood spills, souls are taken. In fewer words than that, this book will hook you. Brimming with a complex plotline, vivid imagery, and gut-wrenching suspense, Re-entry of Evil will no doubt knock you for a loop. Deeming himself as a master of horror, Richard Lee proves he knows how to twist both your insides and your mind.

This talented author has put together a delicious array of darkness, combining time travel, altars, daggers made from blood, a book that may save or end your life and souls seeking revenge. Add to that intriguing characters, demons, solid dialogue and sinister atmosphere, and you have a fantastic novel that will get keep blood pumping and your heart racing. While it is indeed a work of horror, it’s also a mix of gothic, sci-fi, and true macabre scenarios; unlike anything I’ve ever read before.

I found myself lost in the mind of Peter Clement, owner of an antique shop left to him by his father. There are secrets that lie in the shop, and once he learns of it, everything changes. Almost overnight, the character is thrust into a mad, dark world, one that involves a dagger that sucks in both people and blood like a portal. He finds a book, a kind of “devil’s wish book”, one created by the devil himself with intent to prey on the greed of man, and Peter must learn how to use its content wisely and still remain alive.

We ourselves enter new realms where we learn about places like Area City, Opera Sands, and Earth 2, and meet figures such as the elusive Meph-Man, No Neck, and the tortured souls of those Peter has killed and collected.

When the devil wrote the book, he had hoped there would be one who could decipher the real purpose of the book, someone to get in deep, and perhaps bring him right into their world. Is Peter the one he can count on, or is there something else in store for him?

It’s a gripping book, truly an art of page-turning situations and an incredible use of imagination. From the beginning you are cast along on a journey that sucks in your mind, body, and soul until the climatic yet satisfying ending.

Richard Lee can count himself as a writer with substance, style, and a solid future in horror and the macabre. I look forward to reading any and all of his future works, hoping to be terrified, surprised, and as thoroughly intrigued, as Re-entry of Evil was for me.

REVIEW By Louise Bohmer for Night Allusions

Remember when you were a kid, and Grandma used to tell you to stay away from that dark cellar door. You didn’t listen … did you? Re-Entry of Evil, the new novel from horror author Richard Lee, is that dark cellar door, beckoning to you. Once you open the cover, and begin the dark journey through this novel’s pages, be ready to sleep with your lights on.

Enter the mind of Peter Clement-a simple man, when we first meet him in the opening of Re-entry of Evil, who owns an antique shop handed down to him from his father. But once Peter finds the devil’s wish book, his life will never be the same. With the help of the Meph Man, Peter begins his descent into a world filled with ultimate power and unforgettable terror.

Re-entry of Evil offers up the perfect recipe for a good long-lasting scare. Take a healthy helping of horror, add a pinch of science- fiction and a generous dash of action, and you have the page turning read that fuels this heart-pounding novel.

Horror author Richard Lee offers you a sneak-up-and grab-you creep out with Re-entry of Evil. So go ahead, read the first page, open those cellar doors, and take the black, wispy hand that summons you into the heart of an unstoppable plot. Re-entry of Evil will have you in its grip after the first sentence, and I guarantee you’ll be back for more of Richard Lee’s gripping, creepy tales.

Related Knocked Knees Press Releases

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) April 1, 2009

This prom season, many teens are looking to make a fashion statement without breaking the bank. A great option for fabulous finds? Turn to the local thrift store where fashionable frocks, suits and even tuxedos are readily snapped up for as low as $ 20, and full outfits with complete accessories easily come in under $ 50 head-to-toe.

The key to finding in-style secondhand looks is to channel current trends and keep an open, creative mind. Savers/Value Village, one of the largest thrift chains with locations across the United States and Canada, offers these tips for snatching up hot prom fashions recessionista style:

Hunt for Old Hollywood Glam: Prom is a big premiere–make it memorable with movie star glitz that never goes out of style. To keep cameras flashing, opt for a sleek, fitted basic black dress accented with a vintage bodice brooch (a popular thrift store find). Pick up a plain clutch and wrap it in a glimmering sash or scarf for extra opulent flair, then finish with long gloves and bright red lipstick for a look that will keep heads turning!

Grab It, Wear It: Thrift stores are a gold-mine for like new dresses in current styles and popular colors, many of which have only been worn once. Hit the special occasion dress aisle for one of these hidden gems that will cost hundreds less than similar looks found at department and specialty stores. And, you don’t have to have a badge in craftiness for these dresses – simply slip on as is and shine away!

Be a Prom Print-cess: Prints of all styles and colors have come out to play. Make sure to check both the formal section, as well as the everyday dress aisles where many lightweight print dresses lay in waiting. Transform these understated finds into glitzy evening gowns by pairing them with simple, yet stand-out accessories such as bold gold hoops, necklace chains, a wrist full of bangles, and even a sleek metallic belt.

Make it a Mini: Prom is showing some leg. Spot an old embelished puffy gown that’s plump with tulle and gauze? Get out the scissors, remove the embellishments, then simply snip away the skirt to hit above the knee. Pair it with a contrasting skinny belt or mid-waist sash (check the men’s department for colorful cast-off cumberbunds), then dance the night away in this updated fairytale look.

1 Bow, 2 Bows, Red Bows, Blue Bows: A traditional prom statement, bows are big for 2009. Cruise the thrift aisles – from fabric and ribbons scraps, to little kids’ clothing and women’s blouses – and pick-up pieces with bow embellishments on the cheap. Snip off the bows, and then stitch onto a solid colored dress to transform the entire look. For girly fashion, space bows directly down the middle of the bodice and embellish with flashy buttons (or try a mix of clip-on earrings for edgier style) hot glued atop the center of each bow.

Pull it Together: While the gown is center stage, a prom ensemble isn’t complete without glam accessories to match. Find all your favorite what-nots at inexpensive prices when shopping secondhand, from faux fur wraps, to costume jewels, cute clutches and more. Trendy insider tips: check the craft section for feathers to affix in your hair for va-va-vintage style; buy a simple long necklace chain and string on a striking pendant or cluster of costume rings that hits mid-bodice for bold flair; be “sashionable” – sashes and scarves can be used as anywhere- embellishments, from belts, to purse accent, bows and more.

Suit Your Budget: Guys can delete the tux rental digits from their cell, and look for a complete suit at bargain prices. Classic black and white never goes out of style and secondhand stores have plenty of options available. Look for a dark color and matching tie to coordinate with your date, or switch it up with a colorful vintage jacket, all for less than the price of your admission ticket!
